Holiday Update – 2025

2025 Christmas Tree2025 is quickly coming to a close, it has been a busy one for both of us I bet.

I wanted to drop a note to let you know I am alive and well and still working as an artist. I still have the uptown studio / shop at 68 W. Park St in Butte, and my studio at home in the flats of Butte.

This year has been one of experimentation and learning on many levels.  I have successfully volunteered in the Butte Rescue Mission bringing art/craft classes to the Drop In center. I also co-produced my first public event at the IRBC – Hats Off to Butte – Millinery Fashion Show in partnership with the World Mining Museum, IBRC, Butte Public Archives and local collectors of Millinery items.  I also produced the Art Cafe at the IBRC during the spring and summer months.  I have taught individually and in a workshop format extensively this year.

To focus my efforts on learning, I did not spend much time on my larger, more complex looms – the drawloom or the 24 shaft floor loom, but rather spent time learning about wool preparation for spinning, and felting. I spent quite a bit of time tablet and inkle weaving while camping this summer.  I have spent time learning how to make millinery and teaching and presenting my learnings.

The city of Butte, Montana is growing and changing with the times. Butte now has several organizations/shops that are offering workshops and classes in groups.  I have discovered I tend to attract individuals and small groups to my studio.  My talent lies in finding people with similar interests to mine and focusing on individual needs and interests and fostering others artistic success.

After thoughtful consideration, I am no longer looking to host workshops of 10 or more people teaching on the weekends or in the evenings. I rather enjoy working with groups of 4 or less so that I can have one on one time with my participants.  I love working with individuals and small groups of friends getting to know them and working on projects they are most interested in. I am finding that people who love working with fiber are most interested in learning the skills that I teach.  I have a wide range of skills in general art, painting and printing, and good collection of studio equipment to work with.

I do not sell supplies, tools or equipment in my uptown studio.  I sell my handiwork.

I make affordable original art. Generally, lower priced items  (under $20) are too expensive to be practical to ship across the country so they are not offered on the website shop. You can see them via Facebook (@HistoricWeaving).  If you were to contact me via phone or email,  I would be glad to quote prices and see if you wanted to pay the cost to ship before processing a transaction. My local retail sales are used to pay the costs of operating the uptown studio.

I offer Multi-Session Skill Building Punch cards. You can think of this as a gift card. For $50 you can get 7 sessions. This cost covers basic materials and equipment – things I have in the studio, for special materials/projects you can either bring your own or I get you a quote on the cost before starting the project.  I can teach on your equipment, if it is portable, or you can learn on mine. You can tell me what type of projects you are most interested in and we build a course of study around that. I support both casual and serious students.

My range of expertise: almost anything in fiber related; felting, spinning, crochet, knitting, weaving, and sewing. I love to make things that involve paper by crafting, printing, painting and weaving.  I dabble in wire work/sculpture as well.

In my teaching practice, I begin at the beginning, assuming you have never tried this type of project before, unless you share your background and then we will build on that. There is plenty of room for self discovery, and experimentation in my studio.

I also adapt projects to special need situations. I have often worked with people who need adaptive equipment and materials.

Unless I have a appointment outside of my regular afternoon hours, you can find me in the studio from 1:30 until 4:30 most weekdays. I do take a break from 3:10-3:45 to transport a child from school and I return to the studio complete my day.

It is possible to arrange to meet in the mornings, afternoons, and some evenings by appointment. To contact me via email use the contact page.
